For many reasons, the song September by Earth, Wind, and Fire has been in my head in an infinite loop.1
Ba-dee-ya, say, do you remember
Ba-dee-ya, dancing in September?
Ba-dee-ya, never was a cloudy day
I know this is a love song, but it also is a good reminder to live and appreciate the each day. We should all be dancing in September…and October and November…you get the gist.
This week brought my routine visit to Mayo for blood work, doc visit, and infusion of Hylecta (shot version of Herceptin). It’s either a good thing or a bad thing, but I barely feel the needles anymore. Of course, I am being treated by phenomenal nurses, so there is that :-). My blood work continues to remain stable, which is a great thing. My body continues to tolerate the copious amounts of drugs that I take on a daily basis. With each blood draw, we worry about levels in my liver and other impacts. The chemo cocktail that I am on continues to work, Praise the Lord!
My next PET scan is in 3 weeks, so there is that. If anything, I’ve learned to live on a schedule. God willing, my scan will continue to show NEAD (No Evidence of Advanced Disease).
The month of September brought new adventures to Mason along with some family sadness. On a happy note, Mason went to Crystal River, Florida. Jamie and Mason went camping for the annual Boy Scout scalloping season. If you are unfamiliar with Crystal River, it is a small fishing town on the Gulf of Mexico where people come for all over to snorkel for scallops during Florida Scalloping Season.
Mason LOVED it. He loved diving down and finding scallops on the ocean floor. Once the group had their allotted haul for the day, they went back to camp and had scallops for dinner. I am proud to say that Mason not only caught them, but he ate them. For those that know what a picky eater he is, this was monumental. I was so proud!
In life you have to take the good and take the bad all at the same time. So with much sadness, we lost my dear Aunt Betty as she succumbed to a long illness. She was the most kind-hearted, giving person anyone would ever meet. She worked as a nurse, and when she retired, she continued to give her time and talents to many charities and organizations, such as Meal on Wheels. She lived a very blessed life, having left us at the young age of 91. God Bless her and my Uncle Roy. I take comfort knowing that I have another guardian Angel in heaven looking down on me.
So this brings me back to September. Let’s all cherish our cloudless shiny days! Every day should be remembered. My hope is to live each day like I’m dancing in September!
